  • Root cause and failure analysis; design appropriate experiments to assist debug

Responsibilities:
This person will be working on design, fabrication and characterization of silicon photonic integrated circuits (PICs) for a variety of applications. Reporting to the VP of Research and Development the successful candidate will contribute to the conception, design and development of both integrated active and passive photonic devices, such as lasers, modulators, amplifiers, detectors, waveguides, wavelength filter, etc.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and characterization of the integrated active & passive photonic devices
  • Performance verification of the silicon-based PICs and their building blocks
  • Design of experiment, verification measurements, root cause analysis
  • Building experimental set-ups and providing support for them
  • Close collaboration with other internal and external teams on multiple projects

Requirements:

Qualifications:
Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Applied (Engineering) Physics or Physics, with a strong background in waveguide optoelectronics and semiconductor device physics.

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Practical knowledge of the waveguide optoelectronic device physics, design, processing and testing
  • Practical knowledge of RF and high speed device design and testing
  • Hands-on experience with standard / advanced optoelectronic device characterization
  • Ability to design and verify original optoelectronic devices, stand-alone or parts of PICs
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills; documentation, oral and written reports
  • Proposal generation and project management experience a plus

ExperiencE:
Both fresh university grads with completed Ph.D. work in the area and mature specialists with proven record of achievement (sample designs, publications, patents, etc.) are welcome. Direct hands-on experience with semiconductor based waveguide optoelectronic device or PIC design and characterization will be considered a strong asset.

   
       
  Process Engineer

Responsibilities:
The Process Engineer contributes to the manufacture of semiconductor wafers and components. Improves manufacturing techniques and production yields and introduces or refines processes to improve efficiencies. Collaborates with senior engineers on experiments related to defining novel photonics devices. Takes ownership of fabrication, testing, and yield of device processing and qualifies production processes by tracking experimental lots for data to verify results. Takes a leadership role in organizing daily work flow and troubleshooting equipment and process problems. Mentors and trains technicians.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Learn the entire fabrication process from start to finish. Take ownership of one or more specific device runs and execute the specific process steps.
  • Continuously improve efficiencies of the overall manufacturing process through newly developed techniques or process refinements based on qualifying experiments.
  • Suggest and implement process improvements to improve overall yield or create new processes.
  • Contribute to troubleshooting process problems, define solutions, and execute experiments to improve yields & cycle time while decreasing costs. Help mentor team technicians to become more independent in solving routine problems.
  • Schedule the efficient movement of wafers, as well as experimental product.
  • Communicate updates and revisions to the process as necessary to maintain wafer flow through the line.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Materials, Chemistry, Physics, or equivalent.
  • 1+ year semiconductor cleanroom processing experience; specifically
  • Wafer & IC handling
  • Photolithography
  • Thin film vacuum deposition
  • Wet & dry etching
  • Microscope inspections
  • Strong computer skills; comfortable working with MS Office software applications.
  • Committed to doing whatever it takes to meet deadlines and get the job done.
  • Must be detail oriented, and able to document experimental procedures and results
  • Good written and oral communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of semiconductor cleanroom process development experience.
  • Solid understanding of cleanroom fabrication processes and equipment.
  • Proficient using JMP to analyze and present experimental data.
  • Ability to work well in diverse team environment.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude using probers and test stands.
  • Must be able to communicate, in writing and orally, using the English language
